Gears of War: E-Day Receives Rave Reviews Ahead of October 6th Launch

Dude, wake up! Gears is back!

It’s been seven years since there was a mainline title in the Gears of War franchise, and, waiting ever so patiently, fans are hoping and praying the game will live up the hype and the series’ pedigree.

Well, the early access reviews just dropped, and the verdict is in – Gears of War: E-Day rocks.

Currently holding a Metacritic score of 88, critics are praising E-Day for its mature storytelling, technical feats, and AAA production value, among other things.

      What is E-Day anyway?

Short for “Emergence Day,” E-Day is a prequel set 14 years before the first Gears game. It follows beloved protagonists and brothers-from-another-mother, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, as they scramble to fight back the sudden onset of series baddies, the Locust Horde, in what would become a long and grueling war for the future of humanity.

      How does E-Day play?

E-Day innovates on the series’ cover-based combat feel by adding additional cover options, faster movement when entering and exiting cover, and new traversal options, including a jump button and sliding.

You can also play with friends! The campaign supports up to four players, split-screen co-op, and multiple multiplayer modes.

E-Day has been compared to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, so if you’re a fan of that game, you might consider picking this up.

How do I play E-Day today?

E-Day launches as an XBOX exclusive. Per XBOX, “Gears of War: E-Day Early Access begins for Premium Edition players and Game Pass subscribers with the Premium Upgrade.” If that’s you, you could be playing the new Gears as early as now!

I’m not sure how I got this far without mentioning the most iconic part of the Gears series: their crazy cool chainsaw guns. They're the perfect example of one thing being two badass things at once. You know what else is two badass things at once? The Stealth™ Flip Wireless Controller by Turtle Beach.

The Stealth™ Flip gives you the flexibility to switch between traditional controller thumbsticks and touch-based controls in seconds by letting you literally flip the analog stick modules over. Freaking cool. Not to mention there are also two mappable back buttons, a dedicated PC trackpad, adjustable trigger stops, and AntiDrift™ Hall-Effect thumbsticks that provide long-lasting precision. Dare I say, this controller is even cooler and way more socially acceptable to carry around than a Lancer Assault Rifle. And you can pre-order yours now!
