GAMES OPTIMIZED FOR NEXT-GEN

It might be hard to believe, but the next-gen is now current-gen.  The Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 are finally here, and they’ve brought some immense horsepower with them.  Both platforms are capable of some staggering feats of strength that will no doubt power the future of gaming.  Things are looking very bright indeed!

With both systems now available nationwide, players are eager to see just what they can do.  We’ll have to wait until later in the platforms’ life cycles to see what they’re truly capable of, but there’s already a handful of launch games that give a glimpse of what’s to come.  Numerous developers have revamped their PS4 and Xbox One offerings to really dazzle on PS5 and Xbox Series X.  There’s way more than just improved loading times here.  These are the games on Xbox Series X and PS5 that dramatically outshine their last-gen counterparts.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

The latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series has arrived, and this time players get to dive into an immersive Viking experience.  While pillaging and plundering, things are going to look better than ever.  Both the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X allow you to run the game at a 4K dynamic resolution, along with a 60fps frame rate.  This simply isn’t possible on the PS4 or Xbox One.  Get ready to explore the world of Valhalla with a visual quality the likes of which the Assassin’s Creed series has never seen.

Watch Dogs: Legion

Watch Dogs: Legion might be one of the biggest showstoppers on Xbox Series X and Playstation 5.  Ubisoft has decided to use the power of these new systems to push graphical fidelity to the absolute max.  While the frame rate for Watch Dogs: Legion sticks to 30fps, you’ll be able to run the game at a stunning 4K resolution.  Even more impressive, both platforms will make use of ray-tracing tech, which helps to make scenes look more realistic through vastly improved lighting.  Get ready for real-time lighting displays and reflections far above what the previous gen could handle.

Dirt

Dirt on PS5 and Xbox Series X puts the power of each platform into the hands of players.  Before hopping into a race, visit the options section to see the choices available.  Racers can select from Resolution, Frame Rate, and 120 Hz options.  The resolution will give you a better overall picture at the cost of some graphical aspects, while Frame Rate will prioritize silky-smooth gameplay.  That said, the real star here is the 120 Hz mode.  Enabling this will knock the graphics down a bit, but your game will run at an insane 120fps.  This will be the first time ever those console gamers can hit this frame rate.  Just make sure your TV can handle it!

F0rtnite

Fortnite has been around since 2017, and it’s still going strong in 2020.  Those who pick up the battle royale action on PS5 or Xbox Series X will be treated to a host of exclusive features and visual treats.  Both platforms are capable of running Fortnite at a rock-solid 60fps, even when in 4K.  Players who like to enjoy some split-screen multiplayer fun will be happy to know that that option has also been bumped up to 60fps.  Most exciting, Fortnite now has dynamic visuals and physics that you can only find on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.  Greatly improved lighting, environments that react to explosions, and reworked fluid simulations for water and smoke will make the world of Fortnite feel more alive than ever.

Rocket League

Fortnite isn’t the only Epic property that’s getting a retooling for the new wave of platforms.  Rocket League has also gotten a major overhaul to take advantage of what the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 can do.  On the Playstation 5 side of things, drivers can enjoy a 4K resolution (checkerboard) at 60fps, along with the use of High Dynamic Range for improved lighting and contrast.  On the Xbox Series X, the game will also run at 4K and 60fps with HDR, but players can also enjoy a special 2688×1512 resolution that supports 120fps.  Xbox fans are left to decide if a small cut in resolution is worth doubling the frame rate.

With the Next-Gen here, we can finally experience the latest games, and also check out some of our favorites in a new light. What will you jump into first?
