 July 2, 2020

Last week, we got a ton of new updates on one of the most anticipated games of 2020, Cyberpunk 2077.

Not only did we get announcements from developer CD Projekt Red, we also heard from select members of the media lucky enough to get their hands on an extended preview of the game. Articles on this preview have all been interesting to say the least, with many suggesting that there’s so many choice options you may feel a little overwhelmed when you first start playing. In a good way. No two playthroughs will be exactly alike!

Whether the replayability of Cyberpunk 2077 interests you, or you want to know more about other bits of news like the anime adaptation, we’ve got you covered with a recap of recent Cyberpunk 2077 announcements!

Next-Gen Upgrades, Anime, & More

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that keeps getting pushed back, with its new release date falling on November 19. With this new date, it sounds like the game will release at the same time as next-gen consoles like the PS5.

As confirmed by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable on both current gen and next-gen consoles. Even better, gamers who purchase a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 for PS4 or Xbox One will get a free upgrade for next-gen consoles at launch.

Other things confirmed by CD Projekt Red include an anime adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077. Yes, you read that correctly. Cyberpunk 2077 is getting an anime adaptation in 2022!

The anime will be carefully crafted by the team at Studio Trigger who you may know from other anime like Promare and Kill la Kill. The anime’s official title is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and will offer fans 10 episodes of new content. Adding to that, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners won’t be based on the game’s story but will instead serve as a spin-off.

Given the show is two years away and CD Projekt Red’s main focus right now is the game itself, we likely won’t get any new info on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and its original story anytime soon. That said, nevertheless, knowing that an anime adaptation is in the works is really exciting.

Speaking of exciting, we got a brand new trailer called “The Gig” featuring clips from the game’s prologue. Because everything in the trailer is pulled from the prologue, watching it won’t spoil any of Cyberpunk 2077 for you, so feel free to check it out!

New Trailer

In the trailer, you’ll get a sneak peek at Night City and an area called the Badlands which lies on the outskirts of Night City. The trailer has a “sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll” kind of vibe to it, showing some of the darker aspects of Night City.

You also get a nice look at some of the technology in Cyberpunk 2077 and the mega-corporation, Arasaka. Oh, and towards the end we catch another glimpse of Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand!

Adding to the details shown in the trailer, select members of the media have had access to a 4-hour extended Cyberpunk 2077 preview. Reading various first impressions of this preview, we were astounded by how many customization options Cyberpunk 2077 lets you choose from including 35 different hairstyles, 17 different eyes and mouths, 8 cyberware options, and more.

Nothing explicitly new there – we knew you could customize all of your bits and parts – though we’re not sure we needed to know the total number of pubic hair options that are available in the game…. for the record, that number is 5. You have 5 different pubic hair options to choose from. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Other things we now know about the game from these previews include the three different path options players have to choose from: Nomad, Corporate, and Street Kid.

Lifepaths

Going over the paths a little more, Nomads are kind of like rogues in that they hang out in the Badlands and steal from people in order to get by. Street Kids are somewhat similar, though they grew up and adapted to the harsh streets of Night City and sound like they know how to defend themselves in a fight.

Finally, Corporates are experts in the wheeling and dealing of megacorps and know how to skirt around the rules and gain access to hidden information.

Once you pick your path, you’ll need to assign 7 points to different categories including Intelligence, Body, Technical, Reflexes, and Cool. We don’t know about you, but we really want to put all our points into the “Cool” category. All 7 of them.

As mentioned earlier, no two playthroughs will ever be alike which gives Cyberpunk 2077 massive replayability. According to past statements from CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be as long as The Witcher 3, though it will be way more replayable.

Night City Scope

The Witcher 3’s average completion time came in at around 50 hours, so if we had to guess, you may be looking at around 30 hours to beat Cyberpunk 2077 but can then double that number if you play through the game again. And again, and again, and again.

Given that Cyberpunk 2077 is open-world, you’re also free to take your time and explore which extends the overall completion time.

Looking at the prologue trailer, we can certainly see ourselves spending a hell of a lot of time wandering around Night City admiring the impressive visual detail it has to offer.

Overall, we’re really looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 when it releases on November 19 (hopefully, as long as there are no more delays). If you pre-ordered a copy for Xbox One or PS4, you’ll receive a free next-gen upgrade that’ll let you enjoy the game on PS5 or Xbox Series X.

If you fall in love with the game after its release, you can look forward to a spin-off anime adaptation in 2022. Furthermore, you can continue to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 while you wait for that anime adaptation to release as the game is massively replayable.

After hearing all of the latest details about Cyberpunk 2077, what are your thoughts on the game? Are you looking forward to spending time in Night City and the Badlands? Are you curious about Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand, or the differences between path options?
