Battlefield 6: What Does Closed Weapon Game Modes Mean? Answered

The Fall of 2025 is going to be marked with what fans are hoping is the triumphant release of Battlefield 6, which is aiming to be incredible.

One aspect that is new for the game is the difference between open and closed game modes, and we're going to run over what the latter means for us.

      Here's what we know.

Battlefield 6: What Does Closed Weapon Game Modes Mean? Answered

Battlefield 6, in many aspects, has gone back to basics, but they've made some notable changes, and one of these is the new closed versus open game mode.

Essentially, what it means is the type of weapons that can be equipped for each class; unless listed, all game modes in Battlefield 6 are assumed to be the open style. This results in players being able to use an LMG on a recon class, or a sniper on a Support class and so on.

Closed game modes are the complete opposite, and call back to the roots of Battlefield, as it'll somewhat restrict what weapons can be used for each class. The fanbase hasn't taken kindly to this change, as a Reddit post soared during the first weekend of the beta, gathering over 4000 upvotes in support of BF6 having closed game modes as the default.
